Spring Green Event

Past Events

Can you remember the last time you had a hearty laugh that emerged from deep within?
The Bulmer Foundation and Transition Hereford are hosting two free Laughter Seminars on Friday,  December 12th, 2008 with guest speaker Carol Thompson of the Laughter Network.
Besides the fun element, the sessions will demonstrate and provide information on the benefits of laughter on well-being, and laughter clubs. These sessions would be of interest to staff teams, parents and guardians, students stressed by the prospect of completing assignments, anyone exploring opportunities for developing additional income streams in 2009 or anyone who wants to set the tone for a good Christmas break.  Click here for more details.

Herefordshire Council's Climate Change Officer announced, "Our target is achieve a 4.9% CO2 reduction by 2010, which is to be done in conjunction with a 8.2% CO2 reduction by central government through the implementation of national measures. Together this sets a total reduction target for Herefordshire of 13.1%."

In order to compile an effective and deliverable action plan for this major challenge,  a workshop was held on Wednesday, 24th September. The aim was to get ideas and views from residents and businesses within the County on how we can achieve this together. If you would like more details, please  E-mail Ben  and pencil it into your diary.

Winds of Change - QEHC Eco Festival
To celebrate the opening of their new wind turbine at the Queen Elizabeth Humanities College, Bromyard, the college combined the opening with their annual PTA school fete on Saturday, 13th September. The general themes of the day were climate change and green issues. For more information please contact Ann Davies

Local Environment and Energy Fair (LEEF)
Ruth Morgan, from Brilley Mountain ECO with Hay Fairtrade Group, attended the event which was held on September 6th & 7th.  She reported that

"Despite soggy ground conditions ( at least it was easy to hammer in tent pegs ) wind, grey skies and occasional showers, the LEEF event was a wonderful opportunity to meet like-minded folk and to indulge in talk of green issues, which often produce that glazed expression of total boredom in others!

To our delight many people appeared to have heard of our Brilley group and showed interest in our small stall giving details of our various events and activities.

On the Fairtrade stall the Ubuntu Cola was a sell-out, even though it has no connection with the computer operating system of the same name. Fizzy drink fanatics were obviously delighted that they could drink the world`s first Fairtrade cola without supporting the CocaCola  Corporation.  Thankfully most of the samples of Fairtrade food and wine were also sold.

It was a rewarding weekend which must  be repeated!"

Work That  Reconnects Workshop at  Rainbow View was held on  Saturday July 19th.   What a success!  Nine people attended, two of whom came from Peterchurch, a few members of the Transition Hereford group and others from Herefordshire CRAG group.  Ages ranged from mid-20's to mid-80's.  Everyone participated fully and the workshop was very well received, with participants leaving on a positive and purposeful note.

Hay Festival Twenty-One 2008   What an excellent festival!  Sarah and Dave  signed up to steward at this year's events.  They planned to volunteer for two or three half-days.  After the first day, they were hooked and volunteered for eight out of the 11 days, for the whole day. The Festival needs local stewards to help, especially at the beginning and end of each Festival.  There are many stewards who travel to and from the Festival from afar.  If you are interested, please follow the link to the  Hay Festival  and let them know that you are interested.  Sometime during February 2009, the Festival will contact you.  It is as easy as that!

Why not become a Friend of the Festival?  The Friends Office is located at 25 Lion Street, Hay, HR3 5AD. Telephone 0870 990 1299.
